The Muslim American Society (MAS) is holding a fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at the Islamic Center of New England in Wayland, Massachusetts (details here, scroll down). MAS has already held one forum in Chelmsford, as reported here. The MAS and ACLU have loudly claimed that the two imams arrested on religious visa fraud charges were "unfairly targeted," that they were only arrested because they were Muslim. The arrest of the two imams is "another strike at a Muslim community already unfairly attacked by law enforcement officials." Yet MAS is completely silent on the fourth person arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials. Who was he? Why aren't they defending him?
Some of my readers requested that I pose a few questions for the MAS:
- "Why doesn't the MAS support the fourth person arrested? Was he a lesser human being because he was not an Imam?"
- "Where was the fourth person apprehended? MAS Boston surely knows. Why are they silent?"
- "Another person who came to the U.S. through Muhammed Khlalil connection was Imam Hafiz Annas. He lived at the house of Imam Masood and Imam Hannan when in this country before his deportation, as the people of their congregations know. Was he unfairly targeted too? Why was there no outcry from the MAS for him?"
Again, we have Muslims, members of local Islamic communities, who are afraid to publicly raise these questions. Given the intimate familial connection of Imams Hannan, Masood and Hamid (from the Worcester mosque) to notorious Pakistani terrorist leader Hafiz Saeed (scroll down halfway), that fear is all too understandable. Many area Muslims have relatives back in Pakistan, and are afraid of harm to their families if they speak up. Welcome to the real world.
I really don't think a group of people an answer questions for all of Islam correctly.

They don't have to answer for "all of Islam." But MAS should answer for their actions. They're using manufactured claims of discrimination to raise money for themelves. The money is practically being extorted from struggling Muslim immigrants, who are told that they should donate money to MAS, this will help them in the afterlife. How manipulative and shameless! The MAS should take back their utterly false claim that the only reason the imams were arrested was because they were Muslim.
