Eric at Classical Values gets this exactly right: it sure sounds like a setup, and "identity politics" taken to an extreme. I don't have the right to scream "Fire" in a crowded theatre, and you guys don't have the right to chant "Allah" as you board a plane. Try the prayer room at the airport or just pray silently to yourselves, as many millions of other religious people do every day. No doubt in my mind this was a deliberate provocation, and will be followed by a lawsuit in no time. There are many forms of jihad.
Omar Shahin, one of the imams, said that they were only praying, doing what "1.7 billion Muslims around the world do every day." Eric responds:
1.7 billion Muslims around the world feel the need to stand up and pray on planes?
Nonsense.
Even heard of time place and manner? There's no right to stand and pray on a plane, or do anything else on a plane in such a way as to upset passengers.
The way CAIR is screaming about anti-Muslim bigotry is very suspicious, and I think this was probably a set up. A very despicable one at that.
Eric has more details on Omar Shahin. Gateway Pundit has more details on the Imam Conference that the six men were attending. Dr. Sanity examines the psychological processes going on here for all involved.
ScrappleFace reports that a consortium of major airlines are now offering Muslim prayer sections on all national and international flights. "Flight attendants will alter their safety instructions to inform passengers that "seat cushions can be used as prayer mats," and pilots will make every effort to point planes toward Mecca five times each day." Beautiful, problem solved!
