Working overtime these days, no time to blog or garden!! Killing me, especially with so much good stuff going on in the world. And little time left for transplanting! Arghhh!!! Wahhhhh!
I'd love to write about the following:
- The Islamic Society of Boston can't stop getting subpoenas for any and all who write about them (so what am I? Chopped liver? Just kidding, I don't really want to have to get a lawyer.) The latest to be subpoenaed is a freelance writer who wrote about the ISB controversy at The New Republic.
- The Pope speaks the truth: He went so far as to quote a 14th century Byzantine emperor´s hostile view of Islam's founder. "The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war," the Pope said. "He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'" Noting that violence has been a part of the spread of Islam for centuries has resulted in, uhhmmm, violence. Shocker.
- Orianna Fallaci died of cancer, very sad. David Horowitz writes about her death here, and says: May we honor her by heeding her warnings and dedicating ourselves to the struggle to which she gave her final hours. Pretty good article about Fallaci several months ago in the New Yorker. Fascinating and brave woman, may she rest in peace.
- Sisu has a lovely post about Fallaci and the plain-spoken Papa Ratzi here.
- A few folks noticed this silly article about Papa Ratzi's lecture - which was FAR more about reason and faith than it was about violence in Islam. Quote: "In clinging to theology and orthodoxy, the bookish Benedict has shown little regard for media management in getting his message across, unlike the communications-savvy John Paul II." Huh, imagine that! A pope who clings to theology and orthodoxy! How curious, how bizarre, and what a coincidence!
Thanks for the nice link, doll. In my mind's eye Papa Ratzi just took up Fallaci's torch . . .
