Mumbai Attacks

I haven't got much to say about the terrorist attacks in Mumbai which started on Thanksgiving Day and continued for two more days.  I'm still numbed.  My heart goes out to all the people attacked, tortured and murdered by the smiling terrorists.  May the injured people heal, may the souls of the departed rest in peace, may the survivors be comforted.  May God bring his own perfect justice to the murderers. 

I was glad to see the media coverage of this event, it was front page news and on the evening news for several days.  Finally, the US press pays attention.  The analysis was lightweight, as is the norm in our country, unfortunately.  But how much "analysis" does anyone need when young Pakistani men wantonly murder as many people as they can?  Women and children were massacred, Muslims were spared, Jews were targeted, people were tortured for hours or days before they were killed by the terrorists.  The terrorist traveled to Mumbai by sea, first hijacking a fishing trawler and beheading its crew.  A coast guard boat intercepted the hijacked trawler, which flew a white flag of surrender.  When the two coast guard men boarded the trawler, a terrorist slit the throat of one of the coast guard and threw him overboard.  The second officer was slain later.  Speedboats met the trawler a mile and a half off of the Mumbai seashore.  The terrorists used dinghies to get onshore, and began their killing spree, murdering whoever they found at a police station, a railway station, a restaurant, a jewish center, a cafe, a gas station and two hotels.  Azam Amir Kasav, apparently the only surviving terrorist had this to say:

'I have done right,' he told investigators. 'I have no regrets.'

Really, how much analysis is needed?  It's the ideology, stupid.  Does it matter which jihadist group planned this and pulled it off?   It's part of the endless violent jihad being waged against Hindus, Jews, and other non-Muslims around the world.  There's an evil, supremacist Islamic ideology underneath this madness, and we continue to ignore this at our extreme peril.

New Dirt on "Menino's Mosque" in Boston

Excellent investigative article in the Boston Phoenix, available on the web today, to be printed tomorrow.  Reporter David Bernstein covers a lot of ground here, going back to 1988 and the very beginning of the mosque project, which was initiated by a council of Roxbury Muslims.  This article is terrific, he covers all the salient issues:

• Mosque project of local Roxbury Muslims taken over by Middle Eastern immigrant Muslims,
• City gives sweetheart deal, essentially subsidizes a religious entity,
• Ciy gives the OK to a woefully underfunded project (it's still $2 million short),
• City never got the "benefits" promised by the  Islamic Society of Boston (the mosque has "neglected its contractual obligation to maintain nearby parks"),
• BRA's Muhammad Ali Alaam worked on behalf of the mosque, clearly had its interests at heart, not the City's, in an obvious conflict of interest,
• Notes the replacement of the ISB by the Muslim American Society, and the MAS's takeover of other local Muslim orgnizations,
• Notes the ousting of Imam Talal Eid from the slamic Center of New England,
• Covers the ISB lawsuits against the Herald, Fox News, David Project and others,

Great article, lots of material, much of it new.  Also excellent sidebars.  Excerpts:

I'm disappointed that ISB/MAS imam (sheikh?) Basyouny Nehela wan't even mentioned in the article.  He once again manages to escape any scrutiny.  How did he get here?  Who brought him here from Egypt?  Given all the seaminess with these folks, Nehela has to have something going on.  Also no mention of the ISB's latest trustee, Dr. Jamal Badawi, who was personally named in the US Muslim Brotherhood's 1991 planning document. Remember this charming quote from that document:

“The Ikhwan (Muslim Brothers) must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.” 

For even the liberal Boston Phoenix to sit up and pay close attention to the ISB/MAS and the City's role in the mosque project is news in itself.  Good job, Boston Phoenix!

Aafia Siddiqui Found Incompetent to Stand Trial

Another twist in the strange story of MIT grad Aafia Siddiqui, she's been found unfit to stand trial:

" 'Mata Hari' terror suspect Aafia Siddiqui is not mentally competent to stand trial, a court-appointed psychiatrist said."

"Manhattan Federal Judge Richard Berman still plans to hold a hearing Wednesday to find out whether Siddiqui could participate in court proceedings on medication".

" 'Ms. Siddiqui is not currently competent to proceed as a result of her mental disease, which renders her unable to understand the nature and consequences of the proceedings against her or to assist properly in her defense,' says an evaluation performed by a federal prison doctor in Carswell, Texas."

"Berman ordered the evaluation after the M.I.T.-educated neuroscientist from Pakistan failed to appear for a September court hearing in Manhattan because she was unwilling to undergo a strip search."

"Siddiqui, 36, is accused of trying to kill a U.S. soldier with an M-4 rifle stolen from another soldier while she was being detained by Afghan police in July. She was shot and wounded during a scuffle."

This strikes me as very odd.  Siddiqui was lucid and rational when she was first apprehended in August 2008 and brought to the U.S.  She demanded a copy of the Koran, halal meals and female doctors to attend to her.  Sounds mentally competent to me.  In October 6, 2008, Siddiqui was visited by four Pakistani senators, as reported in the Daily Times:

"Dr Aafia Siddiqui, now being held in a Texas facility for psychiatric evaluation to determine if she is fit to stand trial, was allowed to meet the four-member Pakistani parliamentary delegation for two hours 45 minutes on Tuesday."

"Siddiqui appeared to be in much better health and physical condition than she has been since her arrest, allegedly in Afghanistan, and her removal by US authorities to the United States to face trial for attacking US personnel with an assault weapon, a story whose credibility will be tested in court. The four-member delegation from Pakistan is made up of Senator Mushahid Hussain, Sen SM Zafar, Muhammad Talha Mahmood and Saadia Khaqqan Abbasi. The four lawmakers, accompanied by Faqir Asif Hussain, counsellor at the Pakistan embassy, were able to meet Siddiqui without the presence of a US official. She was also permitted to sit next to them, instead of being separated by a partition, as is normally the case."

One of the Pakisani senators had this to say about the meeting with Siddiqui:

" 'She seemed calm and composed, and her mind was active and alert,' Mushahid Hussain Syed, head of the Pakistani delegation, told Reuters by telephone from Dallas."

And from a blogger completely sympathetic to Siddiqui:

"On two occasions when Pakistani representatives met her (August 9 and October 6), they reported that she was articulate and okay."

Hmmph...calm and composed, active and alert mind, articulate.  That doesn't sound like someone who is mentally incompetent to stand trial.  The unfortunate aspect of this decision is that it fuels the terrorist-supporters' claims that Siddiqui was abused and tortured, which has apparently led to mental instability. This serves Al Qaeda well.   I suspect Ms. Siddiqui has skillfully played her American psychiatrists. 

Without a trial, we may never know where Aafia was between 2003 and 2008, we may never see the evidence of her involvement with Al Qaeda.  Without a trial, we don't know who's lying and who's telling the truth.  Not a good development.  I hope there are continued hearings on this case.

Taking Pride in the Election?

Similar sentiments, two different reaction to the 2008 presidental election.  First, from writer/commentator Paul Ibrahim, who came to the U.S. as a young boy, fleeing the Lebanese civil war.  He says "I didn't need Obama to tell me that I could do anything – I was doing just fine without him."

"Apparently, to almost every member of the media, the election of a thoroughly unaccomplished man to the presidency is a definition of the American dream for the sole reason that he is half black. Even President Bush has said that Barack Obama’s election is a 'triumph of the American story.' ”

"The unfortunate truth, however, is that Obama’s election is a tremendous devaluation of the American Dream. It teaches us that the recipe for success is not achievement, but cunning. Yet somehow, everyone has fallen victim to the conventional wisdom that 'we now know we can do anything.'...Did we Americans truly need Obama’s election to finally start believing that we could be anything we wanted to be?"

"Obama’s election hasn’t told us anything we didn’t already know. It hasn’t strengthened the American dream. In fact, it trashed it....All Obama’s election has taught me is that I could develop political support through ties with felons, terrorists and radicals who will raise funds for my campaigns, that I could win those campaigns by eliminating my opponents’ names from the ballot or by relying on their sex scandals, avoid any criticism by voting “present” on important legislation, base my policy positions on polls, make good speeches, tell people what they want to hear and be thoroughly unaccomplished – and that I then could become president."

And from the hilarious blogger Iowahawk:

"Although I have not always been the most outspoken advocate of President-Elect Barack Obama, today I would like to congratulate him and add my voice to the millions of fellow citizens who are celebrating his historic and frightening election victory. I don't care whether you are a conservative or a liberal -- when you saw this inspiring young African-American rise to our nation's highest office I hope you felt the same sense of patriotic pride that I experienced, no matter how hard you were hyperventilating with deep existential dread."

The police have to investigate the "crime" of writing graffiti on a wall that was built for teens to write graffiti on? Come again? Some graffiti is more equal than other graffiti?

"Can We Afford Liberalism Now"

Historian Paul Johnson writes about the financial crisis at Forbes:

Anecdotal evidence about the supposed recession we're in:  My husband and I were shopping this afternoon at two different malls in Nashua, New Hampshire.  Both malls were packed, driving lots were full, we were stuck in traffic trying to get back home.  I keep hearing on the news that consumer spending is way down, but it doesn't look that way to me.  It looks more like Christmas shopping has started already.

 

Yup, FBI Arrests Boston Blogger!

OK, I got a vowel wrong, the FBI arrested Tariq Mehanna, not Mohanna.  From today's Boston Globe:

"Statements that Tarek (correction: Tariq) Mehanna allegedly made to the FBI two years ago in the midst of a terrorism investigation came back to haunt him last weekend, when the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy graduate was arrested as he was about to board a Boston flight to start a new job overseas."

"Mehanna, 26, who was living in a sprawling house in Sudbury with his parents, is charged with lying to the FBI in December 2006 when questioned about the whereabouts and activities of Daniel J. Maldonado, a former Methuen resident who was suspected of training at an Al Qaeda terrorist camp to overthrow the Somali government."

"An FBI affidavit unsealed in federal court in Boston Monday alleges that Mehanna told agents on Dec. 16, 2006, that he had known Maldonado for three or four years and that when he last spoke to him two weeks earlier, Maldonado was living in a suburb of Alexandria, Egypt, and working for a website."

"But Maldonado had actually placed several calls from Somalia to Mehanna's Sudbury home four days before the FBI interview, urging him to 'join him in training for jihad,' the affidavit says."

"After Maldonado's capture a month later, a cooperating witness secretly recorded conversations with Mehanna, who fretted about lying to the FBI, according to the affidavit."

"...The complaint filed against Mehanna in Boston charges him with knowingly making false statements concerning an FBI investigation involving international terrorism. He is not facing any charges of terrorism."

The Globe reports that "a cooperating witness secretly recorded conversations with Mehanna".  Good to know there are people on the inside who are exposing these  jihadi supporters and wanna-be's. 

The Boston Globe article doesn't mention that Tariq Mehanna is likely blogger Abu Sayaba, who runs the 'Iskandari' blog which posts English language translations of classical Islamic texts in support of violent jihad.  And warns Muslim men that women are forbidden, especially "women of this country."   How do we know this?  According to The Jawa Report, Samir Khan of North Carolina, a violent jihad supporter, wrote about the arrest on his blog.  Samir Khan operate Inshallah Shaheed, an openly pro-jihad, pro-Osama website.  The New York Times wrote about Samir last year. 

You can read the Google-cached version of Samir Khan's blogpost about the arrest here (thanks, Howie!).  Quote:

"We have been informed from our brothers that are good friends with Abu Sabaya, that he was recently arrested in the Boston airport. He was on his way to his new hospital job to a Muslim Country when the FBI arrested him."

Kind of gives lie to the notion that Muslims are driven to jihadi ideology and terrorism due to poverty or oppression, doesn't it?  A pharmacology degree  and lives in Sudbury?

Something else is at work here.  We need to talk openly about the spread of Islamist ideology, be it by the Muslim Brotherhood or Deobandi or Salafi/Wahabis or the Islamic Front.  The feds can never arrest enough people to do more than make a dent, although these arrests and trials do put a damper on things and make people think twice.  Something much bigger is needed to counter the violent jihadi mentality, and to expose the "stealth" jihadi ideology that primes young Muslims to support violent jihad against the West.

FBI Arrests Boston Area Blogger?

Hmm, this report isn't substantiated, perhaps some of my readers know if it's true.  From The Jawa Report:

"Samir Khan (wacky Jihadist supporting blogger in North Carolina) reports that a Boston area blogger who goes by the handle 'Abu Sayaba' has been arrested by the FBI. Abu Sayaba runs the 'Iskandari' blog which frequently posts English language translations of classical Islamic texts and rulings in support of violent jihad."

"...According to commenters who claim to know him, Abu Sayaba was a frequent protester at hearings regarding Aafia Siddiqui. Siddiqui was captured in Afghanistan, suspected of being an al Qaeda financier, and is accused of attempted murder. According to this post, Sayaba was in the audience at one of Siddiqui's hearings."

"....I haven't heard of any arrests in the Boston area related to terrorism. If any one has any information about the true identity of Sayaba or about an arrest made in Boston on terror related charges, please let me know."

Ditto.  Enquiring minds want to know if it's true.  Readers, know anything about this?

Abu Sayaba's Aafia Siddiqui post notes that Ms. Siddiqui was quite inspiring in encouraging Muslims to donate to various jihadi causes, and a local imam took off his shoes at a Bosnia fundraiser: "She was so effective in her plea that even the imam took off his boots and donated them!"  Which one, Bsayouney or Masood? 

Here's a Sayaba post warning Muslim menfolk about womenfolk, especially kufr American women:

"And stay away from women (and likewise, women should apply the same for men), as this as the source of all tribulation for those at your age, and in fact for those at any age. Stay from women who are forbidden for you. It is an obligation for you to stay away from them. Of course, all of the women in this land are forbidden for you. It is forbidden for you to look at them, it is forbidden for you to sit with them, it is forbidden for you to chat with them, and it is forbidden for you to be alone with them."

Alrighty then. Believe me, you're doing us kufr women a big favor!

Update: Survey says that a Tariq Mohanna was arrested today.  Not even in the newspapers yet.

McCain FINALLY Defends Palin, Paglia Still Loves Her

About time, Mr. McCain, in fact it's quite overdue:

"In his first interview since conceding the presidential election, John McCain said Tuesday that Sarah Palin did not damage his presidential bid and he dismissed anonymous criticism aimed at her following their crushing defeat."

Camille Paglia (love her!) defends Sarah Barracuda and excoriates the Dems' treatment of this smart, accomplished, gracious woman:

"Liberal Democrats are going to wake up from their sadomasochistic, anti-Palin orgy with a very big hangover. The evil genie released during this sorry episode will not so easily go back into its bottle. A shocking level of irrational emotionalism and at times infantile rage was exposed at the heart of current Democratic ideology..."

"I like Sarah Palin, and I've heartily enjoyed her arrival on the national stage. As a career classroom teacher, I can see how smart she is -- and quite frankly, I think the people who don't see it are the stupid ones, wrapped in the fuzzy mummy-gauze of their own worn-out partisan dogma....I stand on what I said (as a staunch pro-choice advocate) in my last two columns -- that Palin as a pro-life wife, mother and ambitious professional represents the next big shift in feminism. Pro-life women will save feminism by expanding it, particularly into the more traditional Third World."

"As for the Democrats who sneered and howled that Palin was unprepared to be a vice-presidential nominee -- what navel-gazing hypocrisy! What protests were raised in the party or mainstream media when John Edwards, with vastly less political experience than Palin, got John Kerry's nod for veep four years ago?"

Camille is awesome.  I was thinking today how moved I was by Sarah Palin's statement during the Repub's National Convention, "Politicians should have a servant's heart."   Great attitude. Palin has been through the wringer in the past few months. 

Paglia was ticked about the lack of media attention to key matters during the campaign, like Obama's secretive nature and his relationship with Bill Ayers:

"In the closing weeks of the election, however, I became increasingly disturbed by the mainstream media's avoidance of forthright dealing with several controversies that had been dogging Obama -- even as every flimsy rumor about Sarah Palin was being trumpeted as if it were engraved in stone on Mount Sinai"

"...Given that Obama had served on a Chicago board with Ayers and approved funding of a leftist educational project sponsored by Ayers, one might think that the unrepentant Ayers-Dohrn couple might be of some interest to the national media. But no, reporters have been too busy playing mini-badminton with every random spitball about Sarah Palin, who has been subjected to an atrocious and at times delusional level of defamation merely because she has the temerity to hold pro-life views."

Archbihop Sean O'Malley on Obama, Abortion

Boston Globe religion reporter Michael Paulson interviewed Boston Archbishop Sean O'Malley about Obama, abortion, politics.  I found this paragraph intriguing:

"....this man (Obama) has a deplorable record when it comes to prolife issues and is possibly in the pocket of Planned Parenthood, which, in its origins, was a very racist organization to eliminate the blacks, and it's sort of ironic that he's been coopted by them. However, he is the president, and everyone wishes him well, and we will try to work with him."

O'Malley nailed that one.

Matching Suit and Tie

I've heard of mirroring, but this seems awfully blatant:

I was just reading this article describing how Mr. Obama engaged in a mass Eriksonian hypnosis, presumably using neuro-linguistic programming techniques, and I'm poop-poohing the whole idea. Please, let's not subscribe to wacky conspiracy theories like the lefties!!  But then I see this photo at Drudge Report taken from a Bloomberg News article about Mr. Obama's visit to the White House today.  Yikes, not just the matching suit and tie (Bush's trademark color) and pin, but even their hands at their sides and the slope of the shoulders and body look identical.  Weird! 

I'm trying to keep an open mind on the man won the presidential election, but it's difficult. The cult of personality leaves me ice cold.  Something is wrong here. I have never felt the Obama-mania that many of my work associates feel, I've never understood the irrational adoration for the man who has no record of achievement.

If this is mass hypnosis - and plenty of others feel this way - why are some of us immune?

Post-Election Rise in Gun Sales

No surprise here, whether you think Obama will try to restrict gun sales and concealed weapon permits or you think we might see urban unrest in the not-too-distant future.  Seems like a good time to revisit my earlier post seeking advice on a good home defense weapon.  Thanks to the hundreds of people who commented.  Survey says shotgun: Remington 870, Mossberg 500, Remington youth model 1100 in 20 gauge or Mossberg 590.

"Kneecap Him at Every Opportunity"

Have to admit, I like John Hawkin's approach:

"I was on a radio show a few days ago and a liberal caller was on the line. Someone on the show asked me what I planned to do over the next few years with Obama in the White House and I said, 'Kneecap him at every opportunity.' Bipartisanship came up and I said something akin to, 'I'm not interested in bipartisanship. I want to defeat liberalism, not cooperate with it. I want to throw sand in the gears at every opportunity and if Obama wants to work with us, he's going to move to the right.' "

"...Just so everybody knows where I stand, let me be clear: I'm not interested in allowing that moronic, corrupt, anti-white, lying, socialist Obama to methodically destroy everything that's decent and good in the country in the name of bipartisanship, unity, or 'giving him a chance.' "

"...Since I love my country and believe unchecked liberalism is more capable of destroying it than any foreign invader, my conscience demands that I do nothing less."

Related to that, James Giles of the Philadelphia Bulletin, gives this advice: "Put as many long-range torpedoes into the water aimed at Senator Obama's ship of state before Republicans lose control of the Executive Branch as possible."  His excellent suggestions:

*Appoint U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois Patrick Fitzpatrick as a special prosecutor so he can pursue his investigation of Tony Rezko and his corrupt dealings with Illinois's governor and other creatures and spoilsmen of the Daley Machine. This will make it politically difficult for a President Obama to pardon Mr. Rezko and impossible for him to terminate Mr. Fitzpatrick as a federal officer come January 21 as a way of de-railing this investigation.

* Appoint a special prosecutor to investigate ACORN's voter registration methods and its dealings with the Obama campaign.

* Appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Obama campaign's on-line fundraising operation, including its disabling of the credit card security software on its on-line donations system. File a complaint with the Federal Election Commission regarding same.

* Appoint a bipartisan (love that word!) presidential commission to review the candidates' fundraising in this election cycle and to recommend changes in federal election laws.

* File ethics complaints against Sen. Chris Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank for their relationship with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Countrywide Mortgage.

Suggestion to the spineless Republican jackals (and Fox News) who were spreading National Enquirer drivel about Sarah Palin: STFU.  I agree with American Thinker's Clarice Feldman:

"We supported John McCain and his running mate,Sarah Palin, and are sorely disappointed at the cattiness toward Sarah by McCain's staff that's making its way to the press.There's only one way to end this and protect the reputation of the person who brought so much to the ticket:McCain must definitively and decisively publicly contradict these reports and do it now!"

Baldilocks calls for McCain to put a stop to the smearing here.  Sarah Palin is correct that these folks are mean-spirited, cowardly, unprofessional jerks.  It's a sad and telling postscript to McCain's lackluster campaign, which Sarah Palin almost singlehandedly resuscitated. 

Who were these cowardly gossipers?   Some blogs point to Mitt Romney staffers. Others point to  McCain's chief strategist, Steve Schmidt, and to Nicolle Wallace, a former Bush aide.  We don't know who they are, but as Ace of Spades says, "So step out into the spotlight.  You've got a lot to say.  Stand behind your f*cking words." Red State started Operation Leper to find out who the leakers are and make them political lepers.

God speed to Ms. Palin and her family.  She embodies America's values of individual liberty, self-reliance and resourcefulness.  I hope we see much more of her in the future.

"I Feel Like There Has Been a Mass Hypnosis"

Pointer to a blogpost over at Booker Rising, words of wisdom from the blogger's 55-year old aunt:

On Sen. Obama's election: "The sadness I feel today is equivalent to a young girl losing her virginity to some Negro who doesn't care about her. She'll never get it back. We'll never have this moment again [of having the first black president]. It will always be tainted by Obama. The first black person to be elected president of the United States has basically said whatever needed to be said to get elected. This is what politicians do, but he takes it to a new level. I feel like there has been a mass hynosis. People will wake up in January when he is inaugurated, or by summertime next year when the honeymoon has ended. People will wake up and go, 'Whoa, what did we do?' His whole persona is all style and no substance."

A statement for black Obama supporters: "My biggest thing towards my black brothers and sisters is this: I can respect you voting for Barack Obama simply because he is a black man and this was the first opportunity to get a black man in office. Just say that. But please don't insult my intelligence by saying this man is qualified. He's not. He's plastic. The first time I saw Barack Obama, in 2004 at the Democratic National Convention, I said, 'this Negro is full of crap. He is the biggest BSer that I've seen in my life.' And the condescending attitude of his immediately struck a nerve with me."

I Was Wrong - Now We Have President Obama

No one's more surprised than me.  I truly didn't believe that a majority of Americans would vote for a metrosexual Marxist narcissist who has no achievements to point to (beyond a half-billion dollar campaign).  This outcome saddens me.  John McCain would have been a strong and effective leader.  I do fear for our country for the next four years and beyond. I think that Mr. Obama will turn out to be as bad as John Kennedy was on international issues and as bad as Jimmy Carter was on domestic issues.  We're not going to go the way of Europe, are we? 

I never got Obamania, and I don't get it now.  Regarding the election of a person with Kenyan heritage as  president, I'm with John Derbyshire, who writes:

"It is of course a great thing that we are (it seems pretty certain) electing a black President. It's just a crying shame it had to be this shallow, empty man, who has never shown a flicker of interest in wealth creation, whose head is stuffed with all the vapid nostrums of 1980s student leftism, and who seems — putting the most charitable construction on it — not to mind the brazenly thuggish tactics of his supporters."

"I'd gladly join in the cheering and self-congratulation of our nation's first black president, if it were a person of the caliber of Margaret Thatcher. This guy is just Jimmy Carter lite."

So if conservative presidents tend to move towards lefty/liberal in office, what happens to Socialists?

On the plus side, Massachusetts will most likely lose Senator John Kerry and Governor Deval Patrick, who will likely get picked for Obama's administration.  I can hardly wait!  And I think we'll be seeing lots more of Sarah Barracuda too.  McCain took the high road in his concession speech.  He really would have been a wonderful president.

Happy Halloween! American Values and Obama

Things I like about Halloween:
Little kids in costumes; getting to wear a costume at work; chatting with the neighbors and the folks walking around the neighborhood at dusk; carving pumpkins and roasting pumpkin seeds; making pumpkin torches.

Things I dislike about Halloween:
Store-bought costumes instead of home-made costumes; oversized plastic crap in people's front yards; teenaged girls dressed all slutty; teenaged high school boys with no costumes looking for candy. 

This column, written by an English woman living in the U.S., was revealing on a few levels.  She is appalled by the celebration of Halloween in America (too much candy and tacky yard decorations).  But here's what she says about living in U.S.:

"Overall we are loving our time here. There is so much to embrace in America, a nation which just hugs you right back."

"Many of the people we have met truly possess that 'can-do' attitude to life. It has made us more positive people who have greeted every new experience with relish."

In a nutshell, that's why I believe that Senator Obama won't be elected president.  Obama is fundamentally negative about the U.S. and its citizenry, its economy (which is in far better shape than any other country) and its future.  To use Spiro Agnew's expression, Obama is a "nattering nabob of negativism."  Obama says that Pensylvanians cling to their religion and their guns, he says that people who don't want higher taxes are selfish.   (Never mind that the Obamas' record of charitable donations is quite selfish.)  Obama and his wife Michelle see our country and its constitution as basically flawed.  Their attitudes strike me as fundamentally un-American.  As the British lady observed, we Americans are positive-minded.  We fix things, we solve problems, we love to see people do well and be successful, we look at the bright side of life. Obama lacks basic American values, and I believe that most Americans simply won't vote for him.
