There's been a lot of weird news coming out of England lately, which suggests that dhimmitude* is on the march there. Some recent examples of voluntary dhimmitude in Merry Olde England:
- Female Muslim medical students are refusing to roll up their sleeves and wash their hands and forearms, claiming that it violates their religion to expose their forearms. The National Health Service has mandated this practice for all medical personnel, saying it's needed to stop the spread of infections such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile, which has caused hundreds of deaths. The Islamic Medical Association however, insists that no practicing Muslim woman should be forced to bear her forearms.
- England has decided to extend welfare benefits to polygamous wives and their children. Although the government report says that polygamy is illegal in England, it will provide welfare benefits for the wive of Muslim men who acquired their wives in foreign countries where polygamy is legal. "Husband with multiple wives may also be eligible for additional housing benefit and council tax benefit to reflect the larger property needed for his family." Way to go, Guv'nah, create economic incentives for more polygamy and for a family structure that is antithetical to Western society.#
- Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the head of the Church of England, recently said that adopting some (unspecified) aspects of sharia law for Muslims is "unavoidable" in England. Willaims thinks that having sharia law would help create social cohesion. Really? Having different sets of laws for different religions - instead of one set of laws for everybody - would create cohesion? I wonder which sharia provisions he's referring to? Should England allow a man to divorce his wife by simply saying "I divorce you" three times? How about 100 lashes (or death) for adulterers and homosexuals? Child custody to the father when couples divorce? Child custody to the Muslim parent when mixed couples divorce? Daughters inheriting half of what sons inherit? Chopping off hands of thieves? There's a reason that the most vocal opponents to introducing sharia family law in Ontario, Canada in 2004 were Muslim women. Williams did get "slapped down" by many of his his British brethren the following day, as per this article.
What are they drinking across the Big Pond?
As Omnia21 points out in an e-mail, Lord Carey of Clifton, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, had a far better understanding Islamist ideology and sharia law:
"....Fundamental differences between Judaism and Christianity on the one hand, and Islam on the other, is that the former readily accepts the sacred/secular divide whereas in Islam there is no such separation for the vast majority of Muslims. For the Islamist, Sharia law takes precedence over civil laws. ... Islamists in particular yearn to live under Sharia law, a reconstituted caliphate, to return to the original principles of the Islamic state. This creates problems in Muslim-majority countries as well as in the West."
Notes below.....
*DhimmiWatch explains "dhimmitude":
"Dhimmitude is the status that Islamic law, the Sharia, mandates for non-Muslims, primarily Jews and Christians. Dhimmis, 'protected people,' are free to practice their religion in a Sharia regime, but are made subject to a number of humiliating regulations designed to enforce the Qur'an's command that they "feel themselves subdued" (Sura 9:29). This denial of equality of rights and dignity remains part of the Sharia..."
# I love this comment from an Indian about the polygamy benefits:
"What is wrong with the rulers of Britain? Why are you bent on driving your country to the toilet? As an Indian citizen, I recollect how much grandfather used to praise the British for their discipline, sense of culture and mental fortitude. I guess, years of socialization (Dame Thatcher's reform notwithstanding) have driven the great British nation to the bottom of the pit. Where is the outrage, folks? Are you going to bend over backwards to accomodate Dark Age philosophies? Why are you so craven to religious extremism? I'm glad my elders are no longer there to witnes the complete disintegration of the empire they admired most (although they were ironically subjects of that very empire). Sir Churchill must be spinning in his grave. Shame!"
The most abused minority of all in Islam --- children --- have no one to speak for them because the notion of a child bride is 'enshrined' in the actions of Muhammad whom the Koran calls "an excellent model of conduct" (33:21) and "an exalted standard of character" (68:4) as evinced by the following Hadith of Bukhari "The Prophet married Aisha when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consumed (i.e. consummated) that marriage when she was nine years old." (Vol5, Bk63, No3896). He was 54 at the time. There are numerous other Hadiths including Aisha's own testimony in Tabari which confirm this. Many Moslem nations today permit marriage to a child of 9 or younger "if with parental consent." Aisha's comment that "I have not seen any woman suffering as much as the believing women (i.e. Moslems)" (Bukhari Vo7, Bk77, No5825) is still true but, with the admission of Sharia law into Britain (and the US as per a Court in Texas just recently), it will not only be the 'believing women' who will suffer.
As to the bit about Moslem doctors refusing to obey hygiene rules in hospitals, I suggest someone from the British Medical Association have a good look at all those Islamic rules about toiletry hygiene: he or she will discover that Moslems are also supposed to use the fingers of their left hand to remove any residue of defecation, so, refusing to use handwashes will only add to what is already, per se, an unacceptable level of proper hygiene.
