Forgive me for being a bit nervous about the reported resurgence of a more conservative Catholic Church. Paired with rising anti-Semitism in Europe it is not a phenomenon I see with the same optimism as some.

Consider me a wary skeptic.

I understand the wariness, but I don't think it's warranted. The Catholic Church has evolved and improved its attitudes and doctrines towards Jewish people. One example, we aren't called to convert Jews any longer. A second: we no longer teach that "the Jews killed Jesus." Pope Benedict (and Pope John Paul II before him) has been working towards improved Jewish-Catholic relations for decades. It will no doubt continue. The Catholic conservatism movement isn't going back to being anti-Semitic.

I don't know too much about Pope Benedict. From what I heard, I like him a lot. According to the article you linked, the Pope describes rock music as "Satan's work." Why does he believe that? And does that include all rock including Christian rock?

In the Closing of the American Mind, Allan Bloom has similar negative comments about rock music as well.

I don't quite understand that.
