OK, so this is just a press release, but I liked what I read. Shade Clothing, a company based in Utah, recently launched a line that brings modesty to the "little black dress."
The semi-formal dress line fills a niche for women looking for stylish dresses that also allow them to be modest... "I never looked forward to fancy occasions because I had nothing to wear. When shopping for 'semi-formal' dresses, all the fashionable styles were too revealing and of course the modest dresses were frumpy and boxy," said Chelsea Rippy, Shade Clothing founder and CEO. "Shade Clothing's Basic Black collection takes the classic little black dress and makes it modest, while still maintaining ...sophistication and style..."
The company's website is here, although that website features only shirts (very reasonably priced). Their new dress line can be found here (more expensive). (I really like the Audrey, at left .) The products are available in a number of stores out west or from the website. From their "About Shade Clothing" page:
"The idea for Shade Clothing came to Chelsea Rippy of American Fork, UT, after one of many frustrating shopping trips. As had happened so many times before, she spent hours scouring clothing racks looking for items that were stylish without being too revealing. Fed up with her unsuccessful attempts to find hip, modest clothing, Chelsea decided to take matters into her own hands....Chelsea and Char (business partner) both graduated from Brigham Young University with health-related degrees. Both are married and have two young children."
I love that combination of capitalism and religious commitment! So American! They apparently know what they're doing, they've placed their products in many stores, and the website is professional and easy to use. It's so difficult to successfully launch and maintain a new business, especially in the clothing industry. May their company grow and prosper!
P.S. I ordered a camisole and turtleneck top to check out the quality and service. My order arrived in a matter of days, the quality and cut were quite nice. I definitely recommend ordering from them. More comments over at Modesty Zone.
I really love Shade too! So much so I became a Personal Shopper! Feel free to use my PS CODE MAU23780 to get 10% off your first order and 5% off each additional order!

Has Shade discontinued the Basic Black line now? I haven't seen it at their website recently. They did have some nice styles available for a while there. I know we've been finding, though, that casual clothes are much more the bread-and-butter of our sales. As a result, we've been marking down our dresses considerably. I wonder if they had the same experience.

I love the little bit of lace (or is it tulle?) peeking out from underneath. Great detail!
