Local Muslim organizations are outraged that two imams were arrested on charges religious visa fraud. Muslim leaders say in newspaper articles and in their e-mails that they're angry, they feel "unfairly targeted," and they're going to demonstrate that "Muslims will not sit idly by and accept intimidation." Not one Muslim leader has admitted that maybe these two imams did come here illegally, as charged. Not one Muslim leader has acknowledged that if the two imams came to the U.S. using a fraudulent visa, then they're illegal immigrants and they cheated someone else who was coming here through proper channels. The imams likely paid someone big bucks for their religious visa. Why does the Boston Muslim community have a knee-jerk reaction to protect their own, rather than to stand up for the laws of the country which has welcomed them? As an LGF commenter noted: "Their anger is automatic, only in defense of other Muslims, and very well organized." Roger that.
Today's e-mail from the MAS:
PLAN TO COME OUT IN SHOW OF SUPPORT FOR THE IMAMS ON THE HEARING AT THE JFK BUILDING ON THE 3rd FLOOR ON TUESDAY NOVEMBER 21st AT 8:30 AM!!!!
**Imam Masood's lawyer requested that 300-400 people attend to send a clear message that Muslims will not accept intimidation!
Sounds like the MAS and William Joyce, Masood's lawyer, are perfectly fine with intimidating behaviour if they want to pack a bail hearing in a federal immigration court with hundreds of angry people. The MAS also has a petition page (http://www.petitiononline dot com/ImamsMA/, for people to support Imams Hafiz Masood and Abdul Hannan. One could just as well leave a comment in support of the Customs and Immigration Enforcement too! (Oddly enough, if you sign the petition, you'll see an ad for "What the West Needs to Know." Oopsy? Also oddly enough, the petition doesn't show any the comments, just the total number of signers. What if someone wrote a dissenting opinion?)
I plan to attend the bail hearing this Tuesday, November 21, to support the ICE. The MAS posted info on the hearing here: http://www.masboston dot org/index.php?section=70#mod_353 The JFK Federal Building is at the Government Center T subway stop (Green Line). I hope the ICE folks don't "accept intimidation" either, and they are able to conduct their hearing without disruption.
