We went away for the weekend, disconnected from the internet, and came back to two thwarted terrorist plots in two measly days. First, in England:
Terrorists were planning a chemical attack in London similar to the outrage on the Tokyo underground, according to police and the security services.....Security sources suspect that a new atrocity was planned on or close to the anniversary of the July 7 attacks on London, when four terrorists killed themselves and 52 others, and injured more than 700 people. This would have provided a rallying call to al-Qa'eda sympathisers to carry on their "jihad" - or holy war - against the West.
Security sources say that the terrorist threat facing Britain has developed into a "covert conspiracy" involving hundreds of men and women living ordinary lives in the nation's suburbs. They form an estimated 1,200 strong "army" of terrorists believed to be involved in at least 20 major terrorist plots.
Meanwhile, north of the border in Toronto, Canada:
A Canadian counter-terrorism investigation that led to the arrests of 17 people accused of plotting bombings in Ontario is linked to probes in a half-dozen countries, the National Post has learned. Well before police tactical teams began their sweeps around Toronto on Friday, at least 18 related arrests had already taken place in Canada, the United States, Britain, Bosnia, Denmark, Sweden, and Bangladesh.
At a news conference Saturday, the RCMP announced terrorism-related charges had been laid against a dozen Toronto-area men and five teens under the age of 18. The group “took steps to acquire components necessary to create explosive devices” including three tonnes of ammonium nitrate fertilizer, commonly used in terrorist bombs, police said. By comparison, the truck bomb used to blow up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995, killing 168 people, contained a single tonne of ammonium nitrate.
Good thing we have the blogohphere to keep us informed. The major media in the U.S. is largely ignoring these two thwarted terrorist plots. LGF and Jihad Watch are keeping tabs on both developments, Relapsed Catholic is tracking the Canadian terror plot. (See sidebar for links.) We're hearing the usual "This is shocking! These radicals were Canadian (or British) citizens!)" Sisu has thoughts on these episodes, noting that home-grown jihadis are nothing new to those of us who have been paying attention to Robert Spencer, David Pipes, Melanie Phillips, Steve Emerson, Brigette Gabriel and others. I've been wondering when the jihadis will start using blue-eyed white people to blow themselves and others up.
Thank you to The RCMP, CSIS, President Bush, FBI, CIA, and all our law enforcement and intelligence agencies for the work you're doing to keep us from getting blown up or poisoned from nerve gas. When will the media and the general population realize that WWIII is here and now?

Yeeks! At least one of the terrorists was planning to storm the Parliament building and BEHEAD officials.
